A sixth grader brings a leaf to school and jokes that it’s marijuana – he ends up suspended for a full year even though tests show it isn’t marijuana.
It doesn’t matter if your son or daughter brings a real pot leaf to school, or if he brings something that looks like a pot leaf — okra, tomato, maple, buckeye, etc. If your kid calls it marijuana as a joke, or if another kid thinks it might be marijuana, that’s grounds for expulsion.
So now we need to control what another student THINKS? We’re doomed in this age where half the population doesn’t know there are 50 states, or their own state capital.
Next step: soon students will be suspended for biting their Pop Tarts into the shape of a marijuana leaf. You know it’s coming!
